When is Opening Ceremony?
FridayAugust 4, 2017 at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:30pm.

How long will Opening Ceremonybe?
We expect Opening Ceremonyto last about 2 hours and end at 9:30pm.

Where should athletes line up for the athlete parade in?
Athletes should go to athlete parade line up next to Van Andel Arena on Ottawa Street.View Map

What time should I line up?
Line up for athlete parade intoOpeningCeremony starts at 6:30pm. Make sure to be lined up NO LATER than 7:15pm.Flag bearers should be there no later than 7:00pm.Please note, there will be bag check for all the athletes in the parade.

What should I wear?
Athletesand flag bearersare not required to wear anything specific.

Do athletes have to pay?
Athletes must purchase Opening Ceremony tickets in advance to ensure admission to the Opening Ceremony and entry into the parade of athletes. 

How much are tickets?
$5 for an athlete opening ceremony ticket if preordered, $10 if still available on-site.

$10 for a spectator opening ceremony ticket if preordered, $20 if still available on-site.

We anticipate it being a sold-out event so be sure to purchase tickets in advance.

Where do I buy my tickets?
All tickets can be purchased through our website.

If tickets are still available, they will be sold at DeVos Place during Packet Pickup hours.

How do Ireceivemy tickets?
Tickets can be picked up at Packet Pick Up until Friday, August 4 at 6:30 PM. Tickets will be available at Van Andel Arena beginning at 7:00 PM for the duration of the show.

Can I bring strollers into Opening Ceremony?

Will there be bag checks??
Yes, spectators andathleteswill both go through bag checks.

Will there be any strobe lights or smoke during Opening Ceremony?
Yes, during the laser light show smoke, pyro, and fireworks will be used.

Do coaches need to purchase an Opening Ceremony ticket?

I am a coach/parent/guardian, can I walk with my athlete(s) in the athlete parade?
Yes, coaches/parents/guardians will be able to walk in the athlete parade.

Can I take photos at Opening Ceremony?
Guests are welcome to bring cameras into Van Andel Arena for Opening Ceremony for personal/non-commercial use, providing they conform to the following regulations. Still cameras must not have a lens that extends over 80 mm or a detachable lens over 80 mm. Pocket-sized video recording devices, such as cell phones, digital cameras and flip cams, are permitted. Anyone wishing to use a still camera with a lens larger than 80 mm or wishing to record video with a camcorder or larger video camera must request and be approved for a credential by the State Games of America PR department. Guests must not stand in the aisles or obstruct the view of others while taking pictures or video, and tripods, monopods and other camera support pods are not permitted. Flash photography and the use of lights on video recording devices are prohibited. Van Andel Arena and the State Games of America reserves the right to remove any guests who do not cooperate with this policy.
