There might not be a more dynamic duo than the thirteen-year-old Levens twin sisters. Colette and Elyse Levens won the “Youth Female Athletes of the Year” award and it is not a surprise as to why. These twin sisters do it all. This year alone, they are competing in the State Games of America’s competitive swim, cross country, and water ski.

In past years at the State Games of America and the State Games of Michigan, the Levens sisters have won a combined total of ten medals: six gold and four silver. “Every sport they have tried, they have absolutely loved, and have been fairly good at,” says their mother Denise Levens, who has loved watching her girls grow and succeed through the years.

Just last summer they were invited to a national talent camp, where they spent an entire week away from home to do nothing but train. They said it was hard to be away from home and the days were long, but they loved every minute of the camp and know it was worth it to reach their goals.

Beyond sharing impressive athletic abilities, these twin sisters are also both incredibly smart, out-going, kind hearted individuals. They have been home-schooled by their parents for the past three years and have excelled. At age thirteen these two young ladies will be graduating and attending college at Mary Baldwin University in the fall.

From there, Colette will be studying physics, and Elyse will be studying science to later go onto get a master’s degree in neuroscience. They had the opportunity to train at a higher level and give up education, but they decided education was too important and they loved it too much to let go of, and they also want to compete in the NCAA.

One of the best things about the Levens sisters is their attitude towards their success. “They have faced many challenges and have experienced both success and failure but they have always done so with a smile,” says their father, Michael Levens, "They are constantly cheering on their teammates, and in some cases, the other team. They often make friends at meets, just by going around and talking to competitors. People just love to be around these two, and they love to be around people."

When the Levens twins are not training or studying, they like to spend their time challenging their parents in their sports as well as board games. They also love to read and write stories about historical and romantic fiction.

These two amazing individuals are excited and training for this year’s State Games. To compete with Colette and Elyse Levens, check out swim, cross country, and water ski, and it is an almost guarantee that they will cheer you on while competing with you.
